The problem
Hemodialysis is an amazing therapy and in general is very safe and effective. However, did you know that during every single dialysis session patients are at risk of death and other serious adverse events simply from their Venous Needle becoming dislodged? This problem is called Venous Needle Dislodgement (VND). Unfortunately VND is under-reported and many patients and even some clinicians are unaware of how serious this patient risk is. One survey reported that up to 5% of US dialysis patients experienced some form of venous needle dislodgement in the 90 days preceding the survey. Other studies suggest the rates are much lower and still others suggest it might be even higher than this. Regardless of the actual incidence number, there is a need for an affordable, easy to use VND solution for this unacceptable patient risk.
